The Parish Council has made a complaint to KCC Highways and Thames Water at the amount of “emergency” closures in the parish, which results in no advanced notice to our residents and the bus companies.

Road Closures in Red Street and Hook Green Road 4th May 2022
Without notice Thames Water closed the roads yesterday due to alleged emergency work. The Parish Council has written to the Company once again to complain at the lack of notice to this bus route which affect services and residents. KCC were very helpful yesterday in liaising with Thames water to re-open the roads as soon as possible. When there is a planned road closure notice is given the Parish Council who forward the information to residents and bus companies who inform their passengers. If the road is closed due to an emergency there is no notice!.
It would be helpful if residents voiced their concerns with Thames Water at https://www.thameswater.co.uk/help/how-to-complain.
Update from Kent Highways re: Closures of the A2 and slip roads
As you are aware, we currently have various closures installed at Bean junction, including the coastbound exit slip road, the A296, the B255 fast link and Bean Lane. The closures were required 24/7 to carry out various activities, including the removal and reinstating of the splitter island at the top of the exit slip road, installing technology and street lighting and replacing the kerbing. These closures were due to be removed this Saturday 19th March at 6am. Whilst carrying out these works, we have unfortunately lost five days’ work in total due to circumstances outside of our control due to the extreme weather in late February. The team have worked hard to minimise the impact from this, making up as much time as possible, and will now be re-opening the A296 section by the Darent Valley Hospital, the B255 Fast Link and Bean Lane from Tuesday 22nd March at 6am. Whilst this is three days later than originally communicated, we hope you understand our efforts to overcome factors outside of our control that have caused delay. We do appreciate your understanding whilst these works are carried out and the safety of everyone remains our top priority, of both road users and our workforce.
The coastbound exit slip road at Bean junction will be re-opened to traffic from 6am on Saturday 19th March, as previously communicated. This should help to reduce any congestion on the London-bound exit slip road at Bean and will help to improve traffic flows at this junction.
We will continue to ensure all residents and stakeholders are informed of the closures that we have and any changes. We would like to thank you for your continued support and understanding whilst we complete the works, with the majority of closures now planned to take place overnight, with some lane closures scheduled on the B255 whilst we install the segregation barrier. Our closures will be communicated via the National Highways South East Twitter page and also via our text messaging service whereby people can sign up for text updates by texting A2BE to 60777.
